VACHERON CONSTANTIN × RUBEN BENJAMIN

FROM PAST TO PRESENT — 2024

Vacheron Constantin commissioned Munich-based artist Ruben Benjamin to create From Past to Present, a site-specific installation for the opening of its new boutique in Munich. Bringing together contemporary art and fine watchmaking, the collaboration explores a shared fascination with craftsmanship, precision, and the passage of time.

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is one of the world's oldest continuously operating watchmakers. Its longstanding commitment to art and culture is reflected in collaborations with internationally renowned institutions, including the Louvre in Paris and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

For the Maison's new boutique on Munich's Maximilianstraße, Benjamin created a series of unique artworks and sculptural objects exclusively for Vacheron Constantin. Blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture, the installation translated the artist's exploration of light, material, and perception into a spatial experience.

Inspired by the passage of time, From Past to Present brought together organic forms, layered surfaces, and carefully applied color. The works reflect a shared appreciation for craftsmanship and technical precision, while exploring the relationship between movement, material, and the changing nature of light.

Following their exhibition in Munich, the artworks became part of the Vacheron Constantin Art Collection in Geneva, establishing a lasting presence for Benjamin's work within the Maison's collection.
